  • Accounting Manager

    Main Responsibilities:

    Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
    Review and monitor account balance in both income statement and balance sheet reporting.
    Prepare financial management reports.
    Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year end close.
    Review statutory annual and quarterly statements prepared by Accountants.
    Ensure timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
    Review and sign off on monthly reconciliations prepared by Accountants.
    Oversee reinsurance accounting function.
    Lead budget and forecasting activities.
    Participate in systems conversion projects including determining accounting impacts, gaps, training needs, reporting needs, updated procedures, testing and reconciling process.
    Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures.
    Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
    Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
    Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance professional development of the staff.
    Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
    Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
    Monitor and support taxation issues.
    Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
    Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues/expenses.
    Analyze and advise on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends.
    Analyze financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures, and provide strategic recommendations.
    Special projects as assigned.
    Will immediately report all harassing or inappropriate behavior to Human Resources.
    May perform other functions as assigned.
    Qualifications/Requirements:

    Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting or finance.
    5 plus years of relevant accounting experience INSURANCE INDUSTRY, AND STRONG PREFERENCE FOR INSURANCE COMPANY P/C OR L/H
    Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and statutory accounting principles.
    Minimum 3 years of experience as a supervisor/manager
    C.P.A. designation highly preferred, goal to complete.
    Strong PC skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office products
    Experience with PeopleSoft and Essbase is preferred
    Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills
    Demonstrated ability to improve work processes
    Ability to manage a special project team
    Team player with initiative
    Knowledge of commercial property/casualty insurance is helpful
