biography
James Kong is a partner at Amrop China. He specializes in Consumer and Real Estate practices, and has eight years of successful track record in executive search consultancy. He started his executive search career with Amrop, and later established a boutique firm based in Shanghai specializing in senior placement for MNCs before rejoining Amrop. Prior to executive search, James has over 25 years of general management experience in FMCG business in Greater China, where he assumed senior executive roles at several blue-chip MNCs. He started his career with Jardine Matheson, and subsequently had a long and distinguished career with R J Reynolds and RJR Nabisco which led to his position of Regional VP for China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Philippines. He was then Coca-Cola's Senior VP of its China operations; and later Managing Director for Heinz in Greater China. A bona fide pioneer (since 1977) in China business development, James set up the first foreign (American) manufacturing project in 1981, and led the establishment of the first (Sino-US) equity JV in China as early as 1983. He has broad-based exposure to western corporate cultures as well as to Chinese companies and local business practices – both critical elements for success in China. James loves sharing with his clients the crux of business and organizational success in Greater China. James holds a Bachelor's degree with double majors in Business Administration & Sport Science from State University of New York. A lifetime sportsman, he currently enjoys boating and golfing. He is married with 2 daughters.
