biography

Marie obtained her BSc(Hons) from Flinders University of South Australia and then completed a DPhil at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Postdoctoral research training in cell and molecular biology took her to the USA, Canada and Germany over a 6 year period before her return to Australia in 1985. She subsequently held senior academic positions at a number of institutions in the higher education sector in Australia and New Zealand, as an Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne and Auckland University, and Associate Director and/or research group leader in Medical Research Institutes in Melbourne, Auckland and Sydney. Most recently she led a research and development program at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research as a Conjoint Professor at the University of New South Wales. Marie has significant training and personal experience in academic leadership and management, including roles on appointment and promotion committees. After a very successful academic career, she is now utilizing her broad international experience in the higher education and research institute sectors to facilitate academic recruitment.
